| Description: | The clinical assistant performs under the direction of a physician, mid-level provider, RN, or LPN and within the framework of the office policies and procedures for the clinical department. Assists in admitting, preparation and care of all QEC patients. Manage post-proceudre follow-up calls each day. Maintains and reprocesses all endoscopic equipment and supplies. Performs quality control checks on equipment as indicated by manufacturer. Rotates between pre-proc/recovery area and scope reprocessing room. Candidate can have the following qualifications: NAI/NAII/MA/CMA. |
| Duties: | Assists Patient to complete history. Performs accurate measurement of vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, body weight and height. Records allergies, medications, and pertinent lab work on flow sheets. Assist the physician or P.A. with common procedures which involve little or no modification from one situation to another and may be performed with a predictable outcome.
a. EKG
b. Treadmills
c. Flexible sigmoidoscopy
d. Dressing changes
e. Administer p.o. meds under direct supervision of Physicians
f. Schedules various procedures with other departments and clinics and coordinates related appointments
g. makes referrals to other physicians with authorization from patient’s insurance company
h. assists with Pap smears
i. sets up sterile tray
j. assists with bone marrow biopsy, thoracentesis, paracentesis or lumbar puncture
k. ear lavage
Assists patients via lifting and turning as needed utilizing proper body mechanics. Assists patient to and from vehicle via wheelchair as needed. Talks with patient and family members concerning medical problems via phone and documents conversation in chart as per office policy. Maintains patient confidentiality. Calls in prescriptions to pharmacy per verbal order or written order of physician. Documents in patient’s chart as per office policy. Assist receptionist areas in working in unscheduled patients. Communicates effectively with patients and staff. Performs errands as delegated by station supervisor. Restocks and cleans exam rooms maintaining a clean and orderly work area. Keep station supervisor informed of high-risk situations. Demonstrates appropriate use in cleaning of equipment. Practices infection control, following OSHA guidelines and office policy. Maintains laundry as per station schedule. Maintains yearly CPR certification. Attends fire safety classes, nurse’s meetings and other continuing education classes as offered by P.E.

| Qualifications: | Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Involves standing and walking. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Requires exposure to bodily fluids. |
